A Happy
Life
A happy life must sure be his--
The lord, not slave of things--
Who values life by what it is,
And not what it brings
A Father
Just Like You
I
just want to let you know
You mean the world to me
Only a heart as dear as yours
Would give so unselfishly
The many things you've done
All the times that you were there
Help me know deep down inside
How much you really care
Even though I might not say
I appreciate all you do
Richly blessed is how I feel
Having a Father just like you
A Funny
Thing
It is a
funny thing, but true,
That folks you don't like,
don't like you;
I don't know why this should be so,
But just the same I always know
If I am " sour," friends are few;
If I am friendly, folks are, too.
Sometimes I get up in the morn
A-wishing' I was never born;
I make of cross remarks a few,
And then my family wishes, too,
That I had gone some other place
Instead of showing them my face.
But let me change my little "tune,"
And sing and smile, then pretty soon
The folks around me sing and smile;
I guess 'twas catching all the while.
Yes, 'tis a funny thing, but true,
The folks you like will sure like you.
A New Start
I will start anew this morning with
a higher, fairer creed,
I will cease to stand complaining of
my ruthless neighbor's greed;
I will cease to sit re-pinning while
duty's call is clear;
I will waste no moment whining,
And my heart shall know no fear.
I will look sometimes about me for,
the things that merit praise;
I will search for hidden beauties that elude
the grumbler's gaze.
I will try to find contentment in the paths
that I must tread;
I will cease to have resentment when
another moves ahead.
I will not be swayed by envy when
my rival's strength is shown;
I will not deny his merit, but I'll strive
to prove my own;
I will try to see beauty spread before me
rain, or shine;
I will cease to preach your duty, and be
more concerned with mine.
Anvil Of
God's Word
Last eve I passed beside a blacksmith's door,
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime;
Then looking in, I saw upon the floor,
Old hammers worn with beating years of time.
"How many anvils," said I,
"To wear and batter all these hammers so?"
"Just one," said he, then with twinkling eye,
The anvil wears the hammers out, you know."
"And so," I thought, "The anvil of God's Word
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon,
Yet though the noise of falling blows was heard,
The anvil is unharmed, the hammer's gone."
Angels From
Their Throne On High
The Angels from their thrones on high
Look down on us with wondering eye,
That when we are but passing guests
We build such strong and solid nests,
But where we think to dwell for aye
We scarce take heed a stone to lay
Abide With
Me
Swift to it's close ebbs life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim, it's glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see:
Oh Thou who changes not, abide with me!
And Then
There's You
There are those to look up to
Those who are wise
Those who are good friends
Those who advise
There are those who are lovable
Those who are fun
And then there's you...
You're all these in one!
A Friend Just Like You
Someone
who will understand
Who knows the way I feel
In every situations
There concern is very real
Someone who has walked my way
Who knows my every need
Times when they would see me cry
their heart would nearly bleed
Everyone should have a friend
Just the way I do
Richly blessed is what I Am
to have a friend like you.
As I Grow
Old
As I grow
old,
God keep my heart attuned to laughter
When youth is done;
When all the days are gray days,
Coming after the warmth, the sun.
God keep me from bitterness,
from grieving,
When life seems cold;
God keep me always loving
And believing
As I grow old.
A Good
Shepherd
We
are a flock of sheep
Quick to wander and often tangled in the world's thorns
But, you as a faithful servant of Christ
Have lovingly been:
A shepherd,
preacher,
listener,
comforter,
teacher,
counselor,
administrator
To all.
Even as Christ laid down his life for the Church
You have given of yourself so much in devoted services
To everyone who comes into your life.
We love you and prayerfully uphold you.
A Little
Mixed Up
Just a line
to say I am living,
That I'm not among the dead
Though I am getting more forgetful
and mixed up in my head
I've gotten used to my arthritis
To my dentures, I'm resigned
I can manage my bifocals--
But of God, I miss my mind
For sometimes I can't remember
When I stand a the foot of the stair
If I must go up for something
or, I've just come down from there
And before the "frig" so often
My poor mind is filled with doubt,
I just put food away, or
Have I come to take some out?
And there are times when it is dark,
With my nightcap on my head,
I don't know if I'm retiring
or just getting out of bed
So if it is my turn to write you,
There's no need for getting sore
I may think that I have written
and do not want to bore
So, remember that I love you,
and wish that you were near
But, it is nearly mail time
So must say "Goodbye," my dear
There I stood beside the mailbox
With a face so very red
Instead of mailing you my letter
I opened it instead!
A Rosebud
It is only a
tiny rosebud
A flower of God's design
But I cannot unfold the petals
With these clumsy hands of mine
The secret of unfolding flowers
Is not known to such as I
God opens this flower so sweetly
When in my hands they fade and die
If I cannot unfold a rosebud
This flower of God's design
Then how can I think I have
Wisdom to unfold this life of mine
So I'll trust him for his leading
Each moment of of every day
I'll look to him for his guidance
Each step of this pilgrim's way
The pathway that lies before me
Only my heavenly Father knows
I'll trust him to unfold the moments
Just as he unfolds the rose.
Alternatives
Not what we have, but what we use;
Not what we see, but what we choose---
These are the things that mar or bless,
The sun of human happiness.
A Blessed
Man
Blessed is the man who,
Seeing his own face as in a mirror,
And haunted with a divine discontent,
At the manner of man he is,
Goes on to perfection.
A Symbol Of Hope
A Symbol of
Hope
A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.
A Father's Prayer
Lord,
I need your special care.
Like your earthly father, Joseph,
I want to do God's will,
even if I may not always understand.
Make me gentle and selfless
in the care of my family and children;
help me guide them in the toils and troubles,
the happiness and wonders of this life.
Like my Father in Heaven,
make me strong in love and forgiveness
for those you entrust to my care.
No one can do these things rightly, Lord,
without your constant help and boundless mercy.
Be with me always,
and may I come to you in Heaven,
and all my family with me.
Amen
without your constant help
and boundless mercy.
Be with m
And There's You
There
are those to look up to
Those who are wise
Those who are good friends
Those who advise
There are those who are lovable
Those who are fun
And then there's you..
You're all these in one!
A Different Language
I met
a little girl
Who came from another land.
I couldn't speak her language
but I took her by the hand.
We danced together,
Had such fun
Dancing is a language
You can speak with everyone

A
Firefighter's Pledge
I promise concern for others.
A willingness to help all those in need.
I promise courage - courage to face an conquer my fears.
Courage to share and endure the ordeal of those who need me.
I promise strength - strength of heart to bear whatever burdens
might be placed upon me.
Strength of body to deliver to safety all those placed within my care.
I promise the wisdom to lead, the compassion to comfort,
and the love to serve unselfishly whenever I am called

Am Always With You
When I am
gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears
But be Thankful we had so many years.
I gave you my love, and you can only guess
How much you've given me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown,
But now it is time I traveled alone.
So grieve for me a while, if you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust
That it is only for awhile that we must part,
So treasure the memories within your heart
I won't be far away for life goes on.
And if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I will be near
And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear
All my love around you soft and clear
And then, when you come this way alone,
I'll great you with a smile and a "Welcome Home".
A Real Bouquet
Everybody
has two eyes
Bright as stars they shine
But their color may not be
Just the same as mine.
Brown or blue, gray or green
What difference does it make?
As long as you can see the sun
Shining when you wake
Some folks' hair is very black
Some have blonde or brown
Whatever color it may be
It's a pretty crown
Flowers have so many shades
And I'm sure you know
Many lovely gardens
Where such flowers grow
Children in this great big world
Are flowers in a way
Some are light, some are dark
Like a real bouquet
Did you ever stop to think
How awful it would be
If everybody looked the same
Who would know you from me?
A Brother
Just Like You
I
just want to let you know
You mean the world to me
Only a heart as dear as yours
Would give so unselfishly
The many things you've done
All the times that you were there
Help me know deep down inside
How much you really care
Even though I might not say
I appreciate all you do
Richly blessed is how I feel
Having a brother just like you
A Daughter
A Daughter is a
wonderful blessing,
A treasure from up above.
She's laughter, warmth and special charm,
She's thoughtfulness and love.
A daughter brings a special joy,
That comes from deep inside.
And as she grows to adulthood,
She fills your heart with pride.
With every year that passes,
She's more special than before.
Through every stage, though every age,
You love her even more.
No words can describe the warm memories,
The pride and gratitude, too.
That comes from having a daughter,
To love and cherish...just like you!
A
Grandfather Like You
Throughout
the years, you've always been
A wonderful man, you see.
When I was small you took the time
to bounce me on your knee.
As I grew older you were there
I only had to call.
I knew that I could count on you
You'd never let me fall.
So many hard times in my life
You've helped to get me through,
I'm so glad God's given me
A Grandfather just like you.
Am I A
Builder?
I watched them tearing the building down,
A gang of men in a busy town.
With a ho-heave-ho and lusty yell,
They swung a beam, and the side wall fell.
I asked the foreman, "Are these men skilled,
And the men you'd hire if you had to build?"
He gave a laugh and said: "No, indeed!
Just common labor is all I need.
I can easily wreck in a day or two,
What builders have taken a year to do."
And I thought to myself as I went away,
Which of these roles have I tried to play?
Am I a builder who works with care,
Measuring life by the rule and square?
Am I shaping my deeds to a well-made plan,
Patiently doing the best I can?
Or am I a wrecker, who walks to town,
Content with the labor of tearing down?
Alcohol
The name of each saloon is bar; the most fitting name by far
A bar to heaven, a door to hell; whoever named it, named it well
A bar to amenities and wealth; a door to want and broken health
A bar to honor, pride, and fame; a door to grief, sin and shame
A bar to hope a bar to prayer; a door to darkness and despair
A bar to honor and useful life; a door to brawling and sinful strife
A bar to all that's true and brave; a door to every drunkards grave
A bar to joy to home impart; a door to tears and aching heart
A bar to worthy human use; a door to other drugs of abuse
A bar to heaven, a door to hell; He who named it, named it well.
Amazing
Grace
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound!
That sav'd a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears reliev'd;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believ'd
Thro' many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promis'd good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall possess, within the veil,
a life of joy and peace.
The sun forbear to shine;
But, God who call'd me here below,
Will be for ever mine.
A Chosen
Child
You're a
chosen child
You're ours, but not by birth
But just the same, we feel
You're the greatest child on earth
You're a chosen child
Sent down from God above
Chosen To Fill our home
With laughter and with love
You're a chosen child
You've given us so much pleasure
Chosen above the rest
A precious, priceless treasure
A Cousin
Just Like You
I
just want to let you know
You mean the world to me
Only a heart as dear as yours
Would give so unselfishly
The many things you've done
All the times that you were there

Even though I might not say
I appreciate all you do
Richly blessed is how I feel
Having a Cousin just like you

Just Like You

Just Like You
I
just want to let you know.
You mean the world to me
Only a heart as dear as yours

All the times that you were there
Help me know deep down inside
How much you really care
Even though I might not say
I appreciate all you do
Richly blessed is how I feel
Having a Mother just like you
A Second
Dad
Even
though you're not my dad
I know that you'll be there to help
With the little things you do
You let me know you care.
You're always there to help,
whatever the need may be
You've given of yourself...
and so unselfishly
Now you're becoming the dad
that I have never known
I'm drawn to you more every day
for the kindness you have shown
I just want to thank you
and let you know I care
A second dad as great as you
is something very rare.
A Boy To Train
The man who has a boy to train,
Has work to keep him night and day.
There's much to him he must explain,
And many a doubt to clear away;
His task is one which calls for act
And friendship of the finest kind,
Because, with every word and act,
He molds the little fellow's mind.
A Chip On
His Shoulder
He always has something to crumble about,
Has the man with a chip on his shoulder;
The world to the dogs is going no doubt,
To the man with a chip on his shoulder;
The clouds are too dark, the sun is too bright.
No matter what happens, it is never right;
When peace is prevailing he is spoiling to fight,
The man with a chip on his shoulder...
All Things Precious
If I could,
I'd comb the sky
and collect the stars,
quickly pile them into a basket
until it overflowed with silvery light.
And then I'd give the basket to you.
because all things precious
and beautiful
should be yours today.
